FAQ
Where exactly is the Satellite Camp held?
It’s on the field to the west of the Blair Castle Drive, immediately opposite the main camp
Can we arrive earlier than 12noon?
Unfortunately we have to ask that everyone arrive after 12.
Who do I get to approve my NAN form?
Your DLV should be sent the NAN form for approval ahead of the camp
Does the camp provide medical facilitites?
Each group is asked to provide their own basic first aid facilities just like you would at a local campsite. If someone is acutely unwell or seriously injured, the camp medical team will attend and support. Should a young person need to visit A&E for review then this would be managed by the group volunteers supported by the satellite staff.
Can Explorers from the main camp visit the Satellite Camp?
Yes. They should let the subcamp leaders know if they are going to be away from the main camp for any period of time. Explorers from the main camp will often go ‘out’ for dinner on Saturday 25th, usually with parents. If they are coming to Satellite, we’d encourage them to bring an overseas guest with them.
Can we order supplies from the main camp?
The supplies are ordered well in advance for the main camp therefore it’s not possible to do this. The major supermarkets will deliver to the camp (PH18 5TL – we’re hard to miss) and there is a small village store in Blair Atholl.
Are there showers?
There are no permanent facilities on the main camp or satellite fields. Our facilities are therefore limited by the physical size of temporary buildings and more importantly by the water supply required. We’re therefore not able to provide shower facilities to satellite camp participants.
What uniform is needed for the Scouts Own?
It’s quite a spectacle as over 1,500 scouts, explorers and leaders parade up the castle driveway. Full uniform including kilt or tartan skirt is preferred but if not available then smart blue or black trousers is the next best option. Noone should feel under pressure to purchase items that they can’t afford.
